Promoting wellness is integral to strengthening a culture of health. In 2021, Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. signed the Cherokee Nation Public Health and Wellness Fund Act, dedicating a funding source that further supported the Cherokee Nation’s efforts toward establishing drug treatment centers, wellness facilities, and other opportunities, striving to ultimately create healthier Cherokees, Cherokee families, and Cherokee communities. Established in Executive Order 2021-07-CTH, the Cherokee Nation Task Force on Physical Wellness gathered information and developed plans to ensure that the Cherokee Nation Public Health and Wellness Fund both meets the needs of our citizens and is sustainable for generations to come. The work of the Task Force included assessing existing physical wellness programs’ availability and effectiveness for Cherokee Nation citizens across the Cherokee Nation Reservation, along with identifying new program or facility needs. Cherokee Nation continues to foster collaboration across multiple sectors, striving to improve the health and well-being of our citizens and communities, and is committed to providing an environment on the Cherokee Nation Reservation conducive to optimal well-being and healing.
