Cherokee National Youth Choir

The Cherokee National Youth Choir performs traditional and contemporary songs in the Cherokee language. The choir was founded in 2000 as a way to keep tribal youth involved with Cherokee language and culture. The group has become a living symbol to the world at large, demonstrating that Cherokee language and culture continues to thrive in modern society.

The Cherokee National Youth Choir consists of Cherokee middle and high school students who live in northeastern Oklahoma communities. The students compete in rigorous auditions every year for a place in the choir. The Choir has consistently produced new music CDs each year and has won numerous awards for its music.

All auditions are by appointment only.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a Cherokee Nation citizen
  • Must be a school student in good standing between 6th and 11th grades
  • Must be able to participate in choir appearances
  • Must conduct behavior appropriate for an ambassador of the Cherokee Nation

During auditions, choir hopefuls must bring with them three documents:

  1. A letter of recommendation from a school official stating they are a student in good standing.
  2. A photocopy of the student’s tribal citizenship card.
  3. Provide a copy of the student's up-to-date COVID-19 Vaccination card.
