Alternative Education

The Alternative Education program emphasizes a flexible entry and opens instructional design program, allowing students to enroll and begin instruction at any time. Students study at their own pace and receive individualized and group instruction. 

 The program offers a wide range of services to students entering the program: 

  • Preparation for High School Equivalency testing for GED® and Hi-Set® 
  • Diagnostic and Placement Assessments 
  • Referrals 
  • Assistance with GED® and Hi-Set® testing fees 
  • Information on programs and other services within the Cherokee Nation  

The Alternative Education program is community-based offering classes where the need exists in the Cherokee Nation jurisdictional service area.  High School Equivalency (GED® and Hi-Set®) classes are offered during the morning, afternoon and evening throughout our 14 counties. 

Classes are located in several areas including: 

  • Claremore 
  • Belfonte 
  • Pryor 
  • Sallisaw 
  • Stilwell 
  • Tahlequah 
  • Catoosa 
  • Westville 

Eligibility requirements include: 

  • Tribal citizenship card (federally recognized tribes)
  • Reside within the 14 county jurisdictional area
  • Age 16 or older

  • High School Equivalency Classes
    The Alternative Education program offers High School Equivalency classes to assist Native American individuals who have not completed high school.
