The Jay Community Garden was created in 2014 and is located at 1501 N. Industrial Park Road, next to Cherokee Nation’s Jay Food Distribution Center. One employee from Natural Resources oversees the project with volunteer labor from Cherokee Nation Healthy Nation. The garden started out with a layout of 100’ x 100’ and expanded in 2015 to 100’ x 265’.
Some of the crops planted include corn, green beans, potatoes, tomatoes and other vegetables. Apple, peach, pear and plum trees were also added with the expansion. This program is organized to assist tribal citizens in having healthier food choices readily available in their local area.
