Dennis Wolf Bushyhead

Bushyhead served as Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation from 1879 until 1887. He was nominated to head the Independent Party, and won by a majority of approximately 400. He stressed better accounting and use of tribal monies, and he had been National Treasurer for eight years. During his second term, three-fourths of the newly elected council were fullbloods, including Senator Ned Christie. His Cherokee name was Tsu lo hv s gi, which the non-Indians mispronounced “Junaluska.”
