Advancement of the Cherokee culture and communities in Cherokee Nation's 14-county jurisdictional areas, as well as our many satellite communities, is important for the future of the Cherokee Nation. Community and Cultural Outreach (CCO) is designed to strengthen Cherokee communities.
The CCO-COTTA program's mission is to assist community organizations ability to increase their effectiveness; enhance essential services to those most in need, and build upon the organizational capacity of each community, diversify resources, and create collaborations to serve those in Cherokee Communities.
Culturally and historically, our intent is to collect, preserve, archive, and share all things pertaining to Cherokee language, history, and culture. Our intent is to present multiple perspectives on subject matter, comparing and contrasting, in order to allow you to interpret the facts. It will never be our intent to politicize, nor be haphazard with culturally-sensitive subject matters. Each subject will be previewed by many trusted elders in order to maintain our integrity, as well as the trust placed in our stewardship with regards to such artifacts. We want to show you locations where our history was made; interview elders, statesmen, and CherokeeTreasures, so that you have the opportunity to hear and see first-hand what our culture values.
