TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Nine Cherokee Nation nurses were honored Monday at Oklahoma’s Great 100 Nurses reception at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa.
The Great 100 Nurses Foundation was founded more than 30 years ago and honors nurses from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, North Carolina and Louisiana who go above and beyond in health care each year.
“We are privileged to employ some of the most talented and dedicated health care professionals in the state,” said Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr., who served as the keynote speaker. “Our nursing professionals are an extremely hardworking group, and we commend these nurses, along with all of our other nursing staff, for their dedication and for continuing to raise the bar in our health system.”
Winners are selected based on their contributions to the medical community throughout their career and can be nominated by health care administrators, patients or their peers.
“Each year we are lucky enough to have nurses honored among Oklahoma’s Great 100 Nurses, and we take great pride in what that means for our health system. Congratulations to each of our nurses, and thank you for the job that you do each and every day,” said W.W. Hastings Hospital CEO Brian Hail, master of ceremonies for the event.
Cherokee Nation Health Services currently employs a nursing team of more than 450 professionals, including 12 nurses that hold specialty certifications in their focus areas.
“Nursing is one of the hardest professions out there, and to be selected as a Great 100 Nurse is quite an honor,” 2018 Great 100 Nurses recipient Randi Duncan said. “I am grateful my peers think enough of me and my work to consider me a nominee.”
